In accordance with the suggestion contained

in the final paragraph of the Foreign Office letter of the

17th. May, 1906, enclosed in Your Lordship's Confidential

despatch of the 23rd. of that month, I communicated to Mr.

H. Hunter who is at present acting as Chief Manager of the

Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation the recommenda➡

tion of the Treasury for a renewal of the agreement for the

coinage of British dollars by India at a Two per cent.

seigniorage which they considered to be a reasonable charge

on the part of the Bombay Mint.

I have now the honour to enclose a copy of

a letter from Mr. Hunter from which it will be seen that

the Indian Mints hold out no prospect of being able to coin

British dollars during the current year.

It would seem as if the Mexican Trade Dollar,

should the Mexican Government act on their proposal to
